Ramadan is one of the holy holidays of Islam. The history of this holiday begins in the 2nd year of the Hijri calendar (623 AD) according to the Muslim calendar. It is also called "Ramadan fast" because it is fasted in the month of Ramadan.
In Islam, the month of Ramadan is considered the most compassionate and holy month of the year. He is also called the "Sultan of the Eleven Months" because one night of this month, our holy book, the Holy Quran, was revealed. That night is called the Night of Power.
Muslims celebrate their most important acts of worship, including fasting and Hajj, and Eid al-Adha, according to the Hijri-Lunar calendar.
The month of Ramadan is a time of fasting, purity of the human soul, correction of faults and imperfections, and purification of the mind, faith and will. With the prayers and worships of this month, man walks from shame to purity, from purity to perfection. This month is the progress of the soul, the flight to God. In the month of Ramadan, mortal beings appear on the battlefield. Faith and the soul collide in this square. The nafs wants to overcome every believer's work and continue bad habits. Beliefs resolutely oppose this, and the tongue stays away from lies, and the eyes and heart turn away from haraam.
Fasting allows people to test their will and endurance, and invites them to purity and kindness.
During the Soviet era, fasting, like other Islamic rites and worships, was banned. But the believers did their duty, albeit secretly.
After Azerbaijan regained its independence, people's freedom of conscience was restored, and attitudes towards Islam, its worship and rituals changed. The holiday of fasting began to be celebrated in our country at the state level in accordance with the Law "On Holidays of the Republic of Azerbaijan" dated October 27, 1992, adopted by the Milli Majlis.
